Emerald Lake
A Resort Review by Chris Moody

I arrived at the resort around 12:30 PM on a Saturday. Fortunately the weather in this part of the Houston area, does not seem to be as bad as the area of Houston I live in, or at least this was the case on this day.

After being buzzed in through the gate, I saw what resembled your typical camp ground, a lot of trees with a few tents poking up here and there. And a large lake.

I checked in and had an abbreviated tour, due to other things going on at the time of my arrival. I returned to my car and took my clothes off, and went to look around.

Coming from Northern California, the idea of a warm lake is something you always hear about, but never experience. Even when I lived in the Los Angeles area, I can never really say the ocean was ever warm, however it was much warmer than the lakes I grew up around.

This lake was quite warm, whereas most bodies of water I'd been in you had to get your head wet in order to feel the warmth of the water, here that was not needed, which was certainly a nice change. I would have loved to spend more time here, but didn't want to get much of a sun burn as my previous one was still in the process of healing.

Half of the resort is blocked from public view via a line of trees that protect the visitors from people on the outside. The other half has a metal wall that is about 10 feet tall. Occasionally through the far end of the lake, you could see the occasional car between the trees as it rushed to go wherever it was going.

I did find that most of the time, it was easy to forget we weren't in the middle of some forest. However the occasional speeding car or siren driving by the front of the resort would remind me that the textiled world wasn't that far away.

The people were all quite friendly, I was invited into the club house for a few games of Wii bowling. It was nice being able to participate in the group activity, though I managed to always come in last place on the scoreboard.

During the hottest part of the day, which wasn't nearly as long as it is where I live, I did stay in the club house did a little TV watching, and looked through some of the naturist magazines they have there. They seem to have a subscription to all the major English language ones from across the planet.

The club house also has an “honor system” based small store, quite a few things are only $1.00. This includes things such as 20 ounce sodas, candy bars, .8 pound bags of ice. They do also have t-shirts and stuff, these of course cost more than a dollar.

The do also have a shack near the lake where they cook food. Being I was on a budget, I had brought my own, but there food did seem to be fairly reasonable price.

Thank-you, Chris for this!

What about the makeup of the folks though?  I mean, families? Any hint at all of a youth program? Thanks!

Unfortunately I have to say that this resort is pretty typical, there may have been 2 people there younger than me, but not by much.

I have yet to see any young people (teens to 20s) at either resort I've been to....
